Livin’ on the Edge

BRASELTON, Georgia (April 30, 2017)

This is what makes motorcycle racing so much fun to watch!

After a near perfect double win at COTA for Bobby Fong and the Quicksilver Latus Kawasaki Racing Team last week, it was a slight reversal of fortunes for the team this week for Round 2 at Atlanta.  Race 1 was a great fight with Yamalube’s Mathew Scholtz, ending with the team in black on top this time but with Fong on the very respectable second step.  The number one spot was lost by just a half-breath and a few feet.

We were, and still are, all feeling great about the start of the season.  This season was nothing like last year when the team was dealing with a new bike brand, missing essential parts, new relationships, and just slightly controlled chaos.  This year the team was cool, people were calm, and things were all largely sorted.  Everyone was chill.  Last year’s conversations had an undertone of ‘we think we can’; this year’s dialogue is ‘I don’t see why we can’t’.  We got this.

But then came the second race at Road Atlanta.  This track is not forgiving.  It’s an older track and she is showing her bumps and wrinkles at some of the most inopportune parts of her twists and turns.  One millisecond of taking one’s eyes of her will bite a rider.  And she bit Mr. Fong, indeed.  Bobby went down but not catastrophically so.  Unfortunately, the bike could not be restarted and that that concluded the day for the Quicksilver Latus Kawasaki Racing Team.

After four races, the team has collected two wins, one second, and one DNF.  Bobby Fong leads the championship.
