Beer or Champagne?

Alright QCrew, we all do it sometimes. When hanging out at the race track after an event, after taking off our helmets and gloves and opening our first beverage after the track has gone cold for the day, we speak disparagingly of a highly shined “garage queen” car or bike sitting in the infield. But we petrolheads are really a welcoming lot, and in a quieter moment away from the smell of race fuel and the adrenaline of fresh competition we will admit to admiring the art and elegance of the classics. In fact, some of us actually attend and participate in car shows and – gasp – even a Concours d’Elegance from time to time.

Even if you don’t, you have to agree with us and the judges at the 2016 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance regarding the overall winner. It is a fantastic car [Edited. Can you believe the writer actually typed “gorgeous” in the first version?], but don’t take our word for it.  Here’s what a former owner said about the car.  It is “the most fun I’ve had off stage and out of bed.” That former owner is Eric Clapton – who, in our opinion, is a pretty good judge of what is fun.  The car is a 1936 Lancia Astura Pinin Farina Cabriolet, now owned by Richard Mattei of Paradise Valley, Arizona.

Ahem.  Cough.  Well \, there were competition cars being displayed also.  Here is a gallery of some of the class winners that have actually been driven in anger at some point in their lives.
